 About Hebel Running

My name is Dusty, and over the past 15 years, running has become a passion of mine.  Growing up playing sports with my brothers, competition seemed to be at the center of everything we did.  Football in the front yard, basketball in the driveway and baseball in the street. We did it all, and it was awesome.  As I've grown up and moved away from my high school and college sports days, I needed something in my life that would satisfy the competitive side of me.  My girlfriend at the time (and future wife) was preparing for her first marathon and she invited me to go on a few runs with her.  I hated it.  Like most people new to running, I was out of breath most of the time, complaining about this and that.  I think she secretly enjoyed making me run up every hill that we saw, just for fun.  Ask her today and I'm sure she'd have some fun stories to tell about running with me while we were in college.  Because I was stubborn and refused to be bad at anything, I decided to start running on my own.  Slowly over time, running became part of my daily routine.  My competitive side enjoyed the hard work and the grind of training.  I loved the satisfaction that came with becoming better and improving.  And that is what draws me to running:  it's the challenge every day, every mile and every race to see what I'm made of.  To see how far I can push myself.  It's the competition inside that makes running so enjoyable for me.

Hebel Running was created out of necessity.  As I slowly immersed myself in the culture of running, I found myself needing an outlet.  If you can picture a hamster on a wheel, my mind was constantly thinking about running.  Training plans.  Workouts.  Nutrition.  Recovery.  Shoes and gear.   I was constantly trying to find ways to become a better runner.  As I've become more knowledgable and experienced as a runner, I've found more and more people coming to me with questions about running and racing.  And over the years I've noticed myself really enjoying helping others achieve their own success in running.  It is my belief that most people simply need some good advice from a fellow runner and a little motivation to not only start running, but to stick with it and make it a part of their lifestyle.  Through running, I want people to feel like they can accomplish anything.  I want them to feel unstoppable.  Running has given me that attitude, and that is something I'm very excited to help my fellow runners discover.

So why choose Hebel Running?  I have the knowledge and experience it takes to help you become a better runner.  Trail races. Half marathons.  Full marathons.  Olympic and Half Iron Triathlons.  The Ironman.  Over the past 15 years, there isn't an endurance event I haven't trained for and raced.  How many miles should I run per week?  What pace should I be running?  What should I eat before a race?  What type of clothes should I wear?  How do I increase my miles or speed?  I have answers to all of these questions because I've been there before.  Let me use the knowledge that I've gained to help you achieve your goals.

As a husband and a father of two young kids (and a dog, too!) who works full time, I know that running and exercise can't always be at the top of the "to do" list.  Life happens and things get in the way.  I have two "go to" phrases that I like to remind myself when life gets busy:  "You will never find time to go running (or biking, swimming or anything else you're passionate about), so you must make time."  And because I have a busy life, I've learned that I must "work smarter, not harder."  I understand that I must be efficient with my time, while also allowing for some flexibility in my training in order to spend time with my family and enjoy life outside of running.  Most people lead busy lives full of responsibilities and commitments, so whether you have time to run 7 days a week, or have 3 hours per week that you can dedicate to running, let's work together to maximize your running ability in the most efficient and safest way possible.

If you have any questions for me, or if I can help you become a better runner, please contact me at hebelrunning@gmail.com.  I look forward to hearing from you!
